Event Description

Join us for an enlightening exploration into the cutting-edge world of Alzheimer’s research at the prestigious Plein Research Symposium, hosted by the University of Washington School of Pharmacy Plein Center for Geriatrics. Established with the visionary support of Joy and Elmer Plein, the Plein Center stands as a beacon of excellence in transformative pharmacy research, education and outreach for older adults. This year’s event is co-sponsored by the UW Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC).

This year’s symposium embarks on a focused journey into the realm of Alzheimer's disease, as we discuss the latest advancements in diagnosis, treatment and patient outcomes. Together, we’ll dive deep into the latest research driven on the following topics::

Innovative Therapies:
Delve into the realm of newly approved immunotherapies targeting amyloid beta while we address the critical questions surrounding their effectiveness, safety and accessibility.

Early Diagnosis:
Uncover groundbreaking approaches to diagnosing Alzheimer’s at earlier stages, revolutionizing the landscape of care and intervention.

Don't miss out on this distinct opportunity to engage with thought leaders, researchers and healthcare professionals shaping the future of Alzheimer’s care from the University of Washington.

About the Symposium:

As pioneers in the field of geriatric pharmacy, the late Joy and Elmer Plein saw a pressing need in their community: Few pharmacists were prepared to address the unique needs of aging adults. Even fewer resources were available to support the care they needed. In 1973, Joy and Elmer worked together to develop a visionary nursing home course within the School of Pharmacy. In the years to follow, Joy and Elmer developed a number of additional courses. Together, they established the Plein Certificate in Geriatric Pharmacy. In 2016, the Plein Center for Geriatric Pharmacy Research, Education and Outreach was established with the generous support from the family. Since its inception in February 2017, the Plein Research Symposium has been a pivotal platform for interdisciplinary health care providers  and researchers to address the unique challenges faced by older adults and their partners in care.
